this error occurs -> 10060 - Connection Timeout

hello everyone!

I have this WebApp that takes too long to process. Basically, it reads an excel template and writes on it(hope you got the idea). When i run it in my PC(Dev Unit), everything works fine but still the process takes too long, but anyhow, everything works, no errors...

Now, when i deployed it to the Server, the process takes too long and it displays the 10060 - Connection Timeout.

I googled about this problem of mine and some forums and articles suggests that i should add a value in the registry to increase the timeout. I also understand that modifying the registry is "dangerous" if i may say so. So, i am just wondering if modifying the registry is the only the solution or there may be another way to fix the error...? AnyOne? :)

By the way, the network uses a proxy server. I did some tests and I observed that when proxy is enabled, the error occurs... When the proxy is disabled, the process continues on, no error is occuring.

I think I should modify "something" in the Proxy Server, correct me if im wrong... And I dont have any idea about that "something"... Help me guys...

Any Suggestion is appreciated...

cheers tsdn!

hi,
as Microsoft says in this article (i think this iswhat you are referring to)
Look at the followin g in the page

CAUSE
This behavior may occur when the Web Proxy service connection settings do not allow enough time to receive a response from the destination Web site before the service closes the connection.
You might need to increase the timeout property in your app.
Have a look at this article and get back if it dosent work

cheers

hi! tnx for replying my friend!

So, this means that i really need to work with the registry of the WebProxy.. OK now, its clear to me..
btw, I already did that adding and setting a Server.ScriptTimeout. But it didnt work with a proxy, still the error occurs...

because the error occurs when i set a proxy, i think i should modify the timeout in the webProxy... tnx for the link by the way! it will help me a lot!

One more thing, is it safe to modify the registry if I will just follow the steps mentioned in the article properly?? i am having this doubts that the system will not work once i modify the registry..hehehe but Hope it won't happen..

Cheers my friend!

Hi,
i had a similar problem. but my project mates handled the timeouts for the web page.
I came out with a solution to run my thead asyncronusly, and it was not to respond back to the webpage.
So i overcame that problem (sorry didnt look back from then)

"Asynchronously"... Can you explain it further? Did you do it using AJAX?

I am puzzled...:)

Hi,
Well...it was asyncronus method invocation.....Similar to threading, except it does reports to a function/method to whom its delgegate points to.
In my case, it did not have to report to anyone, which means it behaved like a process until its mission was complted and got self desctructed (not what you want for debugging, or good programming) but it worked well. If you are looking at something which has to be reported back to the user then you shouldnt be considering this option unless you know how to use it.
But have a look at this site, It has been like a bible for me for asyncronus method invocations.

cheers
