ModalPopUp Issue

I am having a problem with my modal pop up and can't seem to resolve it.

I have a contact form which the user fills out, submits it, where it is
validated using PageMethods / web services and then as long as no errors are
found the callback function is fired which should then display a confirmation
message that the form has been submitted.

This all works fine however, the problem is with the confirmation message.
When I click on submit the confirmation message displays for a short time
before the contact form reloads itself hiding the confirmation message.

The contact form is a user control and I have the control in an update
panel. I am using a fake buttom submit as advised by various posts on the
web and this is outside of the update panel.

The form and the confirmation message are separate divs within the form so
when I run the postback function I set the form div to display: none and the
confirmation message to display: inline.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can keep the confirmation
message showing until such time as the user closes the window.

I think it is something to do with their being a postback in the update
panel but cannot work out how to stop it.

Many thanks
