JIT Debugging

Hi,
After reading through some of the discussion on this forum I may well be well out of my depth here but if anyone has the patience to help out a complete novice it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently invested in some language learning software by Strokes International. When trying to access the help section which involves an instuctional video I get the following error message:

An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. Click continue and application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

File or assembly name help_eng. Or one of its dependencies, was not found.

In the details section there are several directories etc. listed plus the following:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

I've tried to fix it by messing about with . Net Framework but if i'm honest I haven't really got a clue.

Cheers

The big squid.

So this is a webpage you are trying to access.
If the file is supposidly local, your IIS/ASPNET cannot find a certain file (probably a dll)

If it is a webpage remotely on their system, there's not much you can do. Although I would question the quality of their learning software if they can't make their own stuff work.

no this is software installed from a cd so i'm guessing its a problem with my system, prob dll.

here are the full details:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Hi,

This is a windows application error as the error ocurred in the Sytems.Windows.Forms namespace.

The logs show that the application is trying to find either help_eng.exe or help_eng.dll, I would suspect the help_eng.dll is the correct one. Try search your local machine for this file. If it is a dll try registering the dll.
Aug 29 '07 #4
unfortunately i was unable to locate either the .dll or the .exe. any other suggestions?
Aug 29 '07 #5
ok i found the .dll file and copied it into the bin folder and it all functions correctly.
cheers for your help
