C# return results from multiple selects

I have a query that uses a couple of selects to check if it has to update a value insert a value or do nothing.

this is it:
query = "SELECT 1 " +
"FROM *tablename*" +
"WHERE *where clause that checks all columns and values*" +
"IF @@RowCount = 0 "+
" BEGIN " +
"SELECT 2 " +
"FROM *tablename*" +
"WHERE *where clause that checks key columns* " +
"IF @@RowCount = 0 " +
"BEGIN " +
// INSERT......
" END " +
"ELSE " +
"BEGIN " +
// UPDATE.....
" END "+
" END ";

But I only get back a 1 or nothing.

When I use :
while (oSQLDataReader.NextResult())
It doesn't handle the second select.

Does anyone know a better way to do this in one SQL statement and get back what has happend?
