Replacing the Browser Back Button

Hi

I want to implement a replacement of browser's back button.
I am building a web application in which I want that when user clicks on a back button (not the browser's back button), the data on the previous page is retained.

Is there a way other than Session variables I can do it?

Cheers
Sheenu
