SendKeys Doesn't appear to work in application

I have an application where I am using the SendKeys.Send to copy the selected
results from a form, validate the copied text and close Form. See example:

private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Note there is a textbox that has text selected

SendKeys.Send("^c"); //This doesn't copy not sure why
m_strUrl = Clipboard.GetText(); //this picks up what is in the
clipboard...so if you do a manual copy it works
MessageBox.Show("Copied:" + m_strUrl);

}

Any ideas why the SendKeys.Send doesn't work verse the manual action of
<CTRL-Cworks.
