byte* to a String

Hi there,

How do I get a byte* to equal a string.

Example

String hello = "Hello";

byte* helloByte = hello;

//pass it through a method which returns a byte*
//returnHello(byte*) returns the string hellothere in byte* form

byte* newByte = returnHello(helloByte);

//get the string message from newByte

string newHello = newByte*.

Is this possible?

Please help me someone, as this is quite urgent!

What language are you using?
That doesn't sound like a standard .NET language.

You are going to need to be much more clear on what you want.

If you need a string converted to a series of bytes, take a look at:
Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes()

It returns a Byte[] which is valid construct in .NET applications.

Hi,

Im using c#.

I am using a Unmanaged Code (C++) method, buy importing the dll.

The method takes and returns a BYTE*(Pointer) as it parameter.

i managed to use the:

fixed(byte* parameter = byte[] paramToPass)
{
byte* newByte = methodExample(parameter);
}

Is this the correct way to conver it.

I am also using unsafe{}, else the code does not compile.
