60 sec recorder time out

Hi, I am looking to remove the time limitation (of 60 secs) on the MS
recorder. (start-programs-accessories-entertainment-recorder)
Can you advise me on how to remove it please?
That is, I'm not looking for a work-around - but a genuine fix (removal of
time limit)
I called MS - who politely told me to clear off - as all my genuinely
purchased software, 98, XP, Office, + etc. just does not count - because my
operating system was bought with the computer, OEM. (how to treat a customer)

If anyone can help - Many thanks.
