I made sure auto post back is set to true the drop down list is populated , but once i select a different value from the dropdown list, the list is blank and the screen is blank not showing anything its supposed to do.

thank you in advance

When you change the value of the dropdownlist on your webpage (if you have the event enabled, which you say you do) the whole page will be re-loaded, so if your page_load() has some wierd handling with isPostBack you might be stopping the page from loading?
