Power Point makes screen tremble

Sometimes, when working with Power Point, all the screen begins to flash on
and of for up to 15-20 secs at a time, preventing me from working till it
comes back to normal. Curiously enough, this seems not to be related to the
size of the pictures inserted.
How can I help this?
[Reducing the refresh frequency for the monitor doesn't seem to work]
Thank you.
