System Restore Points Gone

My system restore points in XP have been deleted because of something I must
have done inadvertently. I did not receive any warning message saying this
was about to happen like, “You about to delete all your restore points! Are
you sure you want to do this?” Nope, one day just all gone bye bye. I think
it would have made sense to send them to the recycle bin where I could access
them put them back into circulation but, alas, they are not there. My
question is can the restore points be recovered or are they gone forever?

Thanks,

Ruko
