Web Application vs Desktop Application

I wonder whether this article
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973831.aspx is still applicable to
..net 2.0/.net 3.0 and the current computing environment. Also, does it
happen that an application may be both Web and Desktop application?

It is still applicable, but there are new configurations that may be more
useful than either of the 2 alternatives discussed. You might want to
investigate ClickOnce deployment, which is a sort of hybrid of a web and
desktop application. And check out WPF/E
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/asp.net/bb187358.aspx), which is also a
kind of new hybrid.

Hello Peter,

Yes and not :)
Deskop is still firm but web changed a bit since then - AJAX, WPF/E were
introduced. They won a part of apps at destops, but I suppose that destop
wont be erradicated at all at the neares 5-10 years. There are too much apps
which are really good at destop, not the web.
Such kind of messengers, CAM, editors and etc.
