VB.net takes a long time to invoke web service

I'm writing a simple VB.net app (winforms) to access a web service.
For some wierd reason, the first time you invoke the web service there
is a long delay (like 1 minute) before the service comes back with a
result. After that, it comes back amost instantaniously.

It can't be the server. I call the same service using the soap
toolkit and it always comes back instantaniously.

Anyone else seen this?
