manifest files ???

I tried to create a simple "no brainer" console app called 'test'
(wizard generated) using VS2005 - and when I built the project, all I
got were files named test.exe.*.manifest.* etc

Where is my exe file ?

I checked the linker configuration and it is correctly specified to
generate an exe file. I mean this is REALLY annoying
