That said, this is the nature of Norton/Symantec. If you want to stop it,
you have to turn off "active scanning". Your e-mail will continue to be
scanned, but not every document when you open it. This will, however, upset
the Norton/Symantec software, and it will give you messages telling you you
are not protected.
The latest version of McAfee came up several times a day to notify me that
I was not protected, and there was no way to turn it off, and it was
really, really annoying. Plus, I think it invoked it every time and then
just didn't scan the file. I've definitely noticed a performance
improvement since I deinstalled it and installed NOD instead.
