.NET Beginner(please help)

5
HI Everyone,
IF somebody can please guide me..
I have done asp.net course from NIIT but still i cannot get good grasp on ASP.NET. I feel very low in confidence for ASP.NET. Currently i am working in ASP/SQL so I am trying to upgrade myself to get good jobs in ASP.NET.
Please tell me which approach is good? Reading more ASP.NET books(which books) or more practice on dummy projects? My concepts are still not clear
How much time would it take me to learn ASP.NET given the fact i know ASP/SQL from last 3 years

I am posting to let you know that your second thread on the same topic (in the Techie Talk forum) has been deleted. As per our admin's instructions found here, double-posting of questions is not allowed.

Also, you have only waited about 20 minutes. There are a lot of people on this forums in places all over the world, so the person who can answer your question may not even be awake yet. Please give it some time.

Finally, should this thread be in the ASP forum? I'm not sure, since you mentioned ASP.net, but I thought you may want to re-assess if this thread belongs here or in the ASP forum.

Do you think you can learn from examples or do you need a book? Either way check out WROX they have great books IMHO and you can also download the source code.

I think it all depends on how you learn best. Some people need to be told how to do things, others need to try things out, and still others learn by doing.

If classes didn't help you much I'd try to do some practice projects. I myself have learned more by doing one ASP .NET than I did in school. Schooling only gave me the basics but this project took me way past what I learned.

Confidence in coding only comes with practice.

My approach was to build a portfolio of sites to gain practice and establish credentials to apply for a new job. Evolution takes pressure and time, don't panic you will see the light. 2 years after taking this approach and securing that asp.net job I feel a lot more confident than when I started.

An easier intro are starter kits and supporting existing sites, so your first role could be largely support with project work over time. You could try converting websites from your current list to use on your portfolio.

Your background is going to help. You understand the business cycle about how projects are run, this will help to sell yourself in an interview. Man has evolved through bootstrapping, star gazing and believing in the impossible - be confident, plan and set goals - nothing succeeds like success!
