VS 2005 : "Updating. xxx file(s) to process" message when opening large solutions?

I am having the same problem as described in this thread: http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread537873.html

After opening a solution VSS is updating something which takes ages for a solution with over 3000 files.

Has any one got a solution for this?

This may not be helpful, but I'd thought that I'd reply just in case. My question is about site design. I have a site that is about the same number of files, but it is separated into many applications - though not for the same reason. Is there an absolute need to run it as one app?

I guess that multiple dlls is a hindrance in such a large app in VS 2005 versus VS 2003. The other question is whether the development machine needs upgrading, especially more memory.
