Hi there

I don't know much but a year ago i was working with something like that (digital library) and i reached that i just only have to store the files (word, excel) into a folder in my projects folders and into the database store, the path of those files which i stored them in my project.

I don't know if i helped.
Good luck

adch is absolutely right - SQL databases store data not files. The path to the file is the right approach.

You could use sql 2k5 varbinary(max) columns and just store the docs as a blob. Storing docs in the database does offer a few advantages, but not a ton and your overall system performance will pay for it. Full text searches across documents is helpful, especially for foreign languages.
