Writing Windows Events to a log file

We all know about Windows Event Viewer. Basically as soon an the
system/application generates an event it writes it to the Windows Event
Log. My question is this:

Is there anyway to read any event that is generated to a text file
along with all its information? So I don't want to wait for the event
to show up in the Event log and then see if there is an update or not,
I actually want to read/write the event upon generation (i think
advapi32.dll does this).

Any suggestions?

Thanks
