i want to know?How can I know when user close?

hello dear all
please kindly explain me.
I want to know
how can i know
when user close the browser.
I found many sample in some forum
but i don't think it not a good idea for my program.
I have two page
when user click the add button the second page open as
pop up.the second page has many check box.
when user close the browser
i want to check how many check box is checked
and pass to first page .But here is next problem
I use server side check box .how can i do .
please kindly explain me.
