Data Searching Problem in VB. 2005 and SQL Server 2000

Hello Everybody!
I'm using vb.net 2005 and MSSQL Server 2000 as back end i have little problem while i want to show only the data which i want, it gievs me problem infact i want to place a select query and get data for searching purpose but in vb.net 2005 it provides DataSet control, using that i can not get desired data so plz tell me how can i do that all in vb 2005 using dataset and modifying it as i want.
