How to Dynamically Update Content in ASP.NET

1
Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to programming in .NET, and I'm trying to develop a project using ASP.NET web forms.

I have a routine running in the background and I'd like to update the user on the progress of that routine (print status messages to a textbox on the page when the routine finishes some task).

I tried putting my code in the event handler for a command button but that never seemed to update the textbox on the screen when you click it. So currently, all of my code is in Page_Load, and whenever the page loads (and IsPostBack), the routine is already done, and the entire status message is already printed.

Any suggestions for how to correct this are greatly appreciated =)
