Using stateserver.

Hi all,

I am new to web services. I am using stateserver to stored data which i
set using session.

I changed mode in web.config file to StateServer. But didn't change
tcipip address. I kept default value as it is.

So my question is what this address specifies.127.0.0.1:42424. And can
is specify my PC's ip adress instead of this address. IF yes how will i
do this and what port will i give instead of 42424.

Can i use state server installed on some another pc in web,config file.

If anyone can help me in clearing my concept then it will be really
benefical for me.

thanks in advance.

Hi,

The IP address specifies the machine's IP where the state service is
running.

How to configure the state service:

1. Start the ASP.NET state service, either using the Services snap-in or by
executing "net start aspnet_state" on the command line. The state service
will by default listen on port 42424. To change the port, modify the
registry key for the service:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\aspnet_state\Parameters\Port
2. Set the mode attribute of the <sessionStatesection to "StateServer".
3. Configure the stateConnectionString attribute with the values of the
machine on which you started aspnet_state.
The following sample assumes that the state service is running on the same
machine as the Web server ("localhost") and uses the default port (42424):
<sessionState
mode="StateServer"
stateConnectionString="tcpip=localhost:42424"

That's strange, it should work. Did you start the ASP.NET state windows
service ?

Regards,
Pablo.
