Application specific configuration file handling

P: n/a
Hello all!

I have just started learning C# a couple of weeks ago. I went through a
few tutorials and now I am thinking of starting a real application to
learn it better.

The application is a GUI configurator for the I/O of a microcontroller.
In order to define the properties of a microcontroller's peripherals, I
want to define the categories of those peripherals for a specific
microcontroller in a configuration file (I have no idea in what format
as yet, but I need one), in order to make the application more generic
(and more challenging...). The configuration will then be loaded by the
application and a Form will be displaying various controls (dynamically
allocated) based on the content of the file. The application should
then be able to read and write an application-specific configuration
for that microcontroller's I/O.

Whilst I have an idea on how to display the dynamically allocated
controls on the form, the part I have no idea how to do it is the
loading of the controller configuration, and reading/writing of an
application specific configuration for that type of microcontroller,
respectively. These involve parsing, which I don't have experience
with. Here I am, hence, asking you about resources (Internet, books,
etc.) on handling configuration files and/or parsing from within C#. As
I am new to C#, I don't know where to look for information on specific
C# information. Any help would be highly appreciated!
