How to Open & Close files in VB.Net

Hi members,
I'm new to .Net. soplease be patient...

I am writing a User Interface for a Medical practice where they want the ability to display 4 picture on one form. No problems so far. These picture are reduced in size as there are many other fields on the form itself.

This Doctor selects a client which populates the form with various values plus it displays any document linked to the clients account. So the file location and file name are stored ina DB. When and then he/she can view Pathology reports, Word Document, Picture.jpg

The want the ability to press a button and owe populate info we also populate the 4 picture viewers.

The issue that I have is the client wants buttons for each picture window which indicates either opening the file up in Windows and then closing it, Obviously to read it as a full page.

My question is whether we can issue a File Open in one subroutine and the a second subroutine which closes the open document? If so, can you send me an example.

I am writing this application in VB.Net

Hope someone can help
