Referring To An Object From Its Own Event Handler

I'm trying to create an event handler for an object, ListBox1, which looks something like this:

protected void ListBox1_DataBinding(object sender, EventArgs e)
{

foreach(ListItem item in ListBox1)
{
if (item.Value.Equals("xyz"))
{
item.Selected = true;
}
}
}

but i get the following error message:

The name 'ListBox1' does not exist in the current context

How do I refer to an object from its own event handler?
