XML Serializatoin faster than Binary Serialization?

All,

I have a rather complex object graph that I can use serialization to
serialize to XML or Binary.

I find that deserialiation is very slow in either case, but was REALLY
suprised that binary serialization was significantly slower than XML.
I did not expect this.

I know that the first attempt to deserialize is always the slowest, but
this is not my problem... my problem is the quantity of data. I do use
SGEN to auto-gen my XML parser but the following numbers do not include
the generated assembly. (Does anything like this exist for Binary?)

In binary, I have 6.6 MB of serialized data, and the same data is 11.3
MB in XML. This suprises me even more.

In my profiler, I see that it takes 26 seconds (of profiler time) to
deserialize using Binary, but 16 seconds to deserialize using XML.

I am using .NET 2.0... I know that XML got better in this release, but
I didn't expect Binary to be worse.

Is there anything I can do to speed this up?????
Brian
