Can I install VS 2003 and VS 2003 on same system??

Hi,

I am using Visual Studio 2003 currently, but I my next project may
require is on .NET 2.0 and hence i will need to install VS.NET 2005.
but i dont want to lose VS 2003. Is it possible to install both 2003
and 2005 on the same machine? Will installing .NET 2.0 affect 1.1 and
VS 2003??
Please Help Me in this issue..

Thank You!!
Anand.

Not a problem. They can both co-exist without issue. Just remember that if
you open a 2003 project in 2005, it will be converted to a 2.0 app. Make
backup's of your 2003 projects.

Siva,

What is unclear in the answer from Scott.

He can say "No", and than you can maybe think "No it is not possible"

Or "Yes", and than you maybe think "Yes it will affect 1.1"

Therefore what answer do you expect beside that Scott gave you?

Cor,

This happens always for many - posted messages do not appear as fast because
individual's sync settings and network speed differ.

I didn't mean Scott's reply was unclear nor did I give a different one. Just
that Scott's reply didn't appear in my message list. So was my reply.

Your subject is off -- you mean VS 2003 to VS 2005.

Both will run on the same system just fine.

I suggest you do NOT upgrade any web apps in VS 2003 using VS 2005 -- you
will run into conversion problems that will not immediately be apparent. If
possible create a new web app project in VS 2005 and migrate your code
manually.

You might want to stay with VS 2003 until the SP1 for VS 2005 is available.
VS 2005 has a extensive list of prett significant problems (mostly around
the VS 2005 IDE, but several other issues in .NET 2.0 framework itself). An
SP1 for VS 2005 is supposed to be out Q3 this year -- Q3 is rapidly coming
to a close and no sign of the SP1 so.....

For me, what is addressed in SP1 will determine whether I continue with VS
products or not -- just too risky to put all my eggs in the VS basket.

Rob.

Siva,

I do not know if your newsreader allows this: But direct connecting to the
Microsoft newsserver goes mostly the fastest and most complete.

There are more addresses but this is one of them
news.microsoft.com

I hope this helps,
