Too many items under IRQ9 under BIOS

I had to purchase an Adapter USB2 Connect CardBus adapter for my Compaq
Presario 2700T notebook (WinXP). I did this because the HP DVD Burner I
bought requires USB 2.0.
The USB 2.0 wasn't working and after talking to a tech support at Adaptec, I
found out that by going to Start>Run>msinfo32, I have too many items under
IRQ9 which is listed under BIOS Version/Date (which is, btw: Phoenix
Technologies LTD 4.06,8/14/2002).
The tech support suggested I go to the compaq/hp site and look for upgrades
to my bios. I couldn't find any there.

Am I just totally screwed and will have to wait until I can afford a new
computer or does anyone out there have more familiararity with BIOS than I
do? Which is nothing since I never heard of them until talking to the Adaptec
tech rep.

I have been reading other posts on here and know there are sites where you
can purchase bio upgrades and have also read that some people say one should
only go to the manufacturer? In my case, HP. Is this correct because as I
couldn't find any updates there.

One last question, please. What is an IRQ and can I only have 1?

Thank you!

Thanks, Kevin. What happened was I posted my question under the wrong
category. I didn't notice it till later that this is about "net". And I
honestly have no idea what .Net platform means.

Sorry,
Nancy
