add web reference problem with HTTPS

Using VS 2003, I can not add a web reference to our production server's
..asmx URL using HTTPS. I will put in a URL like:

https://mycompany.com/myapp/myservice.asmx

VStudio will display the web methods from that URL and when I click on OK to
download/build the dynamic web proxy code, I get the following error:

Unable to download files from
http://mycompany.com/myapp/myservice.asmx

Note, the message says HTTP not HTTPS. On our production servers we
disallow HTTP and only accept HTTPS requests. Why is Visual Studio trying
to use http to download the ?WSDL using HTTP instead of HTTPS? Our IIS
server sits behind a Cisco SSL accelerator / content switch so IIS doesnt do
any of the SSL session handling. IIS just considers the app to be using
HTTP because of this. Is there any kind of special configuration I need to
do server side to force the use of HTTPS when downloading the ?WSDL? Note,
I can download the ?WSDL in Internet Explorer just fine using HTTPS so why
can't Visual Studio 2003?

thanks

One other thing to note, I just tried implementing SoapExtensionReflector
and that seemed to modify my dynamic ?WSDL to include HTTPS instead of HTTP.
However, VStudio 2003 (client test app) still pukes because it tries to
download the WSDL using HTTP instead of HTTPS during the add web reference.

FYI

Per Microsoft, the easiest workaround for this issue is to add your web
reference by including the ?WSDL in the URL that you enter into visual
studio. So

https://mycompany.com/myapp/myservice.asmx?WSDL would be the best way to
work around this issue.
