Thist is probably very simple for many of you but I am just catching on that
a major change has taken place in the way web projects work and I cannot get
it to work so please indulge me.
First, I say I want a new ASP.NET web service project. This creates a
project but not the virtual directory. It seems that I need to "publish" the
project in order to get the virtual directory to be created. If I try to
publish it again (to refresh the files) then I get an error indicating that I
need to publish to a directory other than the web service project directory.
Second, the project creates a default web.config with <connectionStrings/>
As soon as I try to look at the asmx file
(http://localhost/Service/Service.asmx) I get an error indicating that the
connectionStrings section is unrecogized in the configuration.
Finally, after I get past all of that I get an error when I try to create a
proxy indicating that the type could not be created.
It seems that 2005 has made it harder not easier to create a web service
project over 2003 or maybe I am just missing something. What are the basic
steps that are used to create a web service project, create the virtual
directory, and update the virtual directory with the project contents?
Thank you.
