Floating windows and main menu focus

I have an application that is not an mdi but rather made up of multiple
sdi forms.

I am trying to keep a single set of menus and toobars that change
contents depending on the form that has focus.

The user has the option to float the dockable windows. When the
floating window has focus and they attempt to use the menus or toolbars
the focus moves back to the main window and the menu's switch to
whichever form got focus.

The object browser in VS2005 is a good example of where this works how
I would like. If the object browser is floating and you select
something from the main menu the focus stays with the object browser.

Can anyone provide some insight into how they do this?

Thanks,

Patrick
