VO and DAO patterns

Folks,

I am wondering what would be the real advantage of using VO and DAO
patterns, that means, to separate into 2 types of classes for persisting
data, the "get/set" class and the class that houses all CRUD methods. Maybe
to have also an intermediate class to control this (using facade/MVC
pattern)....

Any light or opinion about it????
