Intermittent Thread was being aborted problems

I have an APS.Net web service which calls another ASP.NET web service
on another (local) machine.

Every now any again I get the ThreadAbortException "Thread was being
aborted" reported on the "client" machine. There are no errors (as far
as I can determine) ocurring on the "target" machine.

These errors are intermittent - the live site can go for a couple of
weeks without them happening, but when they do happen, they happen a
lot, and the only resolution is to do an IIS reset.

Does anybody know of any underlying system/infrastructure problems that
could lead to this behaviour? Or have any ideas about how to debug the
problem?

The machines are Windows 2003, running .Net Framework 1.1 with the
latest SPs applied.

Thanks,
Bob.
