Move Web Site from developement to production

I'm new to creating webs in VS2005. I code now in old asp. Theres a page
with a datagrid on my local machine - hooked up to a database. I created a
virtual directory and it works. Now I have to move and test on the
production server and it's not working.
I created a virtual directory in IIS 6.0
Build and published the web site to the area
Still doesn't work.
Any help is appreciated.
