System.Web.Mail.Mailmessage losing linefeeds. (.NET 1.1)

I'm having a problem with System.Web.Mail.MailMessage losing linefeeds when
creating an email.

This is a VB.NET project. I use a stringbuilder to construct the
MailMessage.Body and use vbCrLf or vbNewLine to format the message body.

Double lines always seem to work (vbCrLf & vbCrLf or vbNewLine & vbNewLine)
however single linefeeds (vbCrLf or vbNewLine) only work the first few lines
in a message, and then they stop working, which leaves the bulk of the email
body a jumbled mess.

I'm using MailMessage.BodyFormat.Text, and MailMessage.BodyEncoding =
System.Text.Encoding.UTF8

Has anyone seen this occur before, or know of a way to fix it?
