Automated Processes

I run FTP, and IRC servers using 3rd party software, and was curious if I
can write a program in VB.net that could automatically do certain things.
(Such as delete Spam, and unwanted programs, automatically download certain
programs that fall into set criteria, etc.) I was thinking of using a print
screen command with some kind of image recognition system or maybe
decompiling the 3rd party software, but I do not know where to begin. Is
there anyone who has any experience in doing something like this?
