Window application's Memory Useage

I noticed that any running .NET window application including .Net
Visual Studio, when GUI is not minimized and keped running for long
time, the memory useage of its could be high, but, when it is
minimized the memory useage will be immedictely drop down. I think
this is where .Net garbage collection takes place. I am wondering if
you can correct on this, and also give me some hints with what are
possible ways if I want keep the memory usage low, and how can I call
garbage collection explicitlly.

Thank you very much.
