NetworkInterface (Difference)

Hello,

I'm a german student and I'm writing a c# .net 2.0 application which
monitors and displays the whole network traffic of a selected network
interface. To get the network traffic, I use the a performance counter with
"Network Interface" and "Bytes Received/sec" to calculate the downstream/sec
(Timer etc.). Yesterday I detected another method which can be called without
a performace monitor: NetworkInterface -> GetIPv4Statistics() ->
BytesReceived. It seems that the second method did the same as a performance
monitor.

My Question is now, what is the main difference between these two mentioned
above and which I should use to get the up and downstreams? My program should
display the "whole" traffic. Which method needs less performance?
(Application s running in the background)

Thanks

Greetings from Germany
