Facing problem in linking xsd to xml. ( IE 6.0)

Hi all,
I have recently started on XML. I have both xsd and xml. I want IE 6.0
to validate my XML file against XSD specified in XML file itself.

For that I have put following line in XML file

<CUSTOMERS xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="customers.xsd">

Then I open XML file using IE 6.0
It shows all contents in browser even though XML is not as per XSD. I
am expecting that browser should throw some exceptions... Is it
correct? If it is correct then what could be the possible reasons for
that behaviour.

I have put XSD and XML files in same folder.

Any hint is welcome...

Regards
Sameer Gajanan Apte.

Sorry, if you open an XMLfile in IE 6.0 it uses MSXML 3 as the XML
parser and that does not even support XSD schema validation. So not sure
what you expect. And even DTD validation is not enabled if you simply
load XML into an IE browser window.
So if you want to do validation you need to use script (e.g. JScript or
VBScript) in HTML document that uses the MSXML APIs to load and validate
your XML. And as said, for XSD schema validation, you need to have at
least MSXML 4 installed while IE 6 only comes with MSXML 3.

Documentation for MSXML is online here:
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnanchor/html/anch_xmlprod.asp>

Downloads for MSMXL 4 and MSXML 6 are here:
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/XML/XMLDownloads/default.aspx>

I suggest if you want to use MSXML and have troubles then post questions
in microsoft.public.xml.
