Remoting Exception

I've created a custom DLL that accepts an XML string, then invokes a proxy
DLL (which invokes Host Integration Services.) I can use the custom DLL in
a C# windows application and it works fine. However, if I use the DLL in a
Web Service, I get the error below. Why does the web service choke but the
windows app runs fine? Is the web service unable to serialize the argument?
The argument is a structure and the IDL shows the fields being marshalled as
UnmanagedType.BStr. Thanks in advance!

GetNotesSystem.Reflection.TargetInvocationExceptio n: Exception has been
thrown by the target of an invocation. --->
System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: The argument type
'CICS_PCSSI001_NET.PCSSI001_IN' cannot be converted into parameter type
'CICS_PCSSI001_NET.PCSSI001_IN'
