Large email messages

have a client trying to send scanned images thru email. He is using
RoadRunner with a 10 mb limit for an email. On Friday, I was sent a 5 mb
attachment that did come thru, but it took 30 seconds for the message to
leave the clients mail box. I did think this was a bit of a long time, but
suggested that he send each item in it's own email only after the last one
had cleared his out box. He stated that he would do this, but on Monday we
had several messages stuck in his out box. After deleting the messages, he
is not able to send any message larger than an average of like 20 kb.

Here are some other details.
Using Exchange Server for internal email and shared calendar. RR
account is set for the default.
* Removed Exchange Server from his profile. Same Results
Using Trend Micro Antivirus on the Server and Workstations
* Turned off Trend both at the workstation and at the server Same
Results.
Went to another computer and tried to send the same attachment,
* Sat in the outbox for 3+ min. Then we deleted it. Seems to
indicate that it is not local to his computer, but in the network.
The file being attached was on the server, so made the file local to
his computer
* same results.

I am at a loss as to where to turn next. We are using a cisco firewall, but
there is not a limit to set for mail. What else should I look at? Any help
would be welcome

I think it totally depends on his SMTP server. What server does he have
configured for this? I would find out, and then give the service provider a
call...

Also 30 secs for a 5 MB attachment sounds ok, since the attachment has to be
UUEncoded (or MIME64 or whatever) into the email message, there is actually
more than 5 MB being uploaded as part of the email. (Maybe something closer
to 6 MB or 5.75 MB).

As a last resort, he could set up your own SMPT (receiving) server as his
SMPT server when sending you emails, but ISPs have lots of restrictions
these days, and one of the most popular ones is to deny access to any
external SMTP server other than the ISP's own.

Sorry, can't type... SMPT = SMTP

he is using the roadrunner smtp server, and a quick call to them told us that
he does have a 10 mb limit. Thought the next step was to see if we could
send it thru the web interface, and also setup another smtp with unlimited.
Will try this in the am.

Thank you for your quick reply
