Error Handling Question

I am receiving the error message, “Invalid file name for monitoring:
'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\project1\~default.aspx'. File names for monitoring must
have absolute paths, and no wildcards” when I try to access the page
http://mysite/project1/~default.aspx. I have customErrors enabled in my
web.config and I have the Application_Error function in my global.asax
redirecting users to a friendly error page; so users should never see a dot
net error message for this application. I discovered this while running a
demo of WebInspect against my site. I have verified that my error handling
works great for page not found and other application errors, but the tilde
(~) seems to bypass it. Any ideas on what I may be missing?
