persistent error message problem

this simple application has 2 screens.
the first screen allows from and to dates to be entered and the second
screen shows statistics for data between the 2 dates.
when a user enters an invalid date, an error message is shown on the first
screen.
if this happens and then the user corrects the date, the statistics are shown.
However, on clicking the back button, the error message re-appears.
Is there any way to deal with this?
In other words to somehow update the first screen to remove the error
message when valid dates are found so that when the back button is pressed
after viewing the statistics, the previous error message does not appear?
