Tell than first what the area is where in you want to develop. Than is
probably a better answer possible.

I am basically trying to get a hang on the various microsoft technologies
involved in web development. I would like to develop a website using .net
from scratch with these technologies as a project.

There are some very good ASP.Net books, as well as quickstarts, starter
kits, tons of great resources online too. MSDN has great documentation
of everything. Of course you want to know the basics before jumping at
it (I mean things like xhtml and such).

Ant,

Than the answer is simple. This is what I used the first time. Be aware that
they do aspnet mainley in a scripting way (The DLL way is much nicer).
However for starting it is great
