IDispatch Invoke array as output

I have function with the signature:
func_name([in] long numOuts, [out][in] VARIANT _RPC_FAR *errorCode,
[out][in] VARIANT _RPC_FAR *errorString, [out][in] VARIANT _RPC_FAR
*state, [out][in] VARIANT _RPC_FAR * returnArray, [in] inputArray)

The returnArray is expected to be an array of 20 doubles. How do i
specify the output array in C++? Do i need to use a SAFEARRAY for this?
What do the DISPPARAMS for this look like i.e. do i use and .parray or
..byref. Also in its .vt, do i use VT_BYREF or do i use VT_ARRAY or
VT_VARIANT?
thanks,
brahm.
