howto create a virtual directory from an existing directory?

Hi,

I have a directory with a webservice project that is not published in
IIS. Therefore I'm not able to open the project in VS.NET (2003). My
goal is to create a virtual directory in IIS from my directory. But
after this the project is still not available in the web project
selection of VS.NET. What do I have to do?

TIA, Frank

Frank,

If you have already created the virtual directory in IIS, try openning
VS2003 and opening it as a regular project:

File -> Open... -> Project...

Just select the project file and VS will figure out that it's a web
project and load it normally.

Let me know if this works for you -- I use it all the time.

Thanks,
Denny Boynton

Hi Denny,

thank you for replying.
If you have already created the virtual directory in IIS, try
openning VS2003 and opening it as a regular project:
File -> Open... -> Project...

I'm still not able to open it. In IIS I can open the virtual directory
in browser via context menu (the content list is displayed in IE).
But, when I try to open http://localhost/ in Explorer, the directory
is not visible. Directories, created by VS.NET (create new Web Service
project) are displayed. I set all the rights in IIS (scripting,
reading, writing, searching etc), but no success. Any Idea?

TIA, Frank
