Server 2003 SP1/IIS 6.0 Installation Problem

Hello,

On one of our servers, I am trying to install IIS 6.0 and ASP.NET. During
the installation process, all files appear to copy fine but when the progress
bar gets to the Installing IIS portion, I receive a few messages stating that
the files could not register properly in the web server's database with an
error code of 0x80070006 (File handle is invalid.) I choose retry each time
and the server continues on finishing the installation. None of the other
portions in the progress bar cause any file handle is invalid errors.

When I open the IIS Manager, it then proceeds to tell me that IIS 5.0 (not
6.0) is installed on this computer. On the Manager screen, under the name of
the server, I have folders that say Application Pools and Websites. The
Websites tab has a white X in a red circle. There is no Web Service
Extensions folder at all. When I try to go in to the Application Pools
folder, after about 20-30 seconds, I get a file handle is invalid error
message.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the same thing happens. I've
tried uninstalling rebooting and then reinstalling and the same thing happens.

I've tried installing IIS 6.0 and ASP.NET on another server in our
organization without any problem. However, its not the right server that I
need IIS 6.0 and ASP.NET to be running on. (I am using the same CD
successfully on other computers, but it is the same one that installs IIS 5.0
on this computer.)

I'm almost convinced that there are additional problems as whenever I run
Dell OpenManage 4.4 on this server, after a few days, one of my partitions
becomes dirty. Uninstalling the OpenManage software fixes that problem.
Just adding this information for others to see in order to help me out in
solving this.

Any suggestions as to what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
