Web Service 'Ticks must be between... error'

I'm getting a 'Ticks must be between DateTime.MinValue and
DateTime.MaxValue.Ticks. Parameter name: ticks' error when retrieving a
dataset from a VB .Net web service from my VB .Net app.

This error occurs only on a few end user machines. It seems like the
dataset that gets serialized by the web service cannot be deserialized at the
client end. What can/should I look at changing on the client end to
eliminate this error?
