Looking for a reference to load xml into sqlserver via a webservice

I have a number of excel spreadsheets which I need to load into a sqlserver
database via the web.

I am thinking of sending data from the spreadsheet as xml to a webservice,
which will parse the xml and insert data into the database. I am looking
for any references that will assist in starting this project, in either C#
or VB.Net.

I am looking for something that will help with things like robustness and
scalability, etc, or just to be a starting point for the project.

Third party tools may be an option if anyone can recomend them, but I
suppose I would like to do it from scratch if time allows. (which it never
does :-)

TIA

Andrew.
